Plugwise participates in the development of ‘the light of the future’

In conjunction with 30 other European companies and academic institutions Plugwise has started participating in an innovative lighting project: ENLIGHT. Enlight is a three-year program which is partly funded by the ENIAC joint undertaking and the ENIAC member states and aims to exploit the full potential of LED-based lighting through breakthrough innovations in integrated lighting solutions. By building on European leadership in semiconductor and lighting technologies ENLIGHT will shape the development of the lighting market of the future.

The makeup of the consortium is well balanced. Besides academic institutions, semiconductor manufacturers, a utility company, innovative medium and small-sized enterprises and two of the largest lighting industry players, Philips and Osram, are part of ENLIGHT-project.

One of the objectives of the ENLIGHT-project is developing compact and efficient electronics, drivers and controls which combined will lead to optimised LED-modules. This will maximise the impact of LED and also the intelligent lighting systems should bring new solutions and possibilities to market which would not be feasible with conventional lighting technology. These new intelligent lighting systems should reduce energy usage by 20%. ENLIGHT will therefore be the basis for `The light of the future'.

Plugwise will be taking part in several working parties such as `system architecture', `intelligent lighting systems' and `validation and demonstration'. Not only will Plugwise provide its soft and hardware but also its expertise in the field of communication and data analysis. Plugwise will eventually be a component in the new standard for lighting system solutions and products.

Plugwise is samen met een dertigtal Europese organisaties en academische instellingen een innovatief verlichtingsproject gestart: ENLIGHT. ENLIGHT is een driejarig programma dat deels gefinancierd wordt door de gemeenschappelijke ondernemingen ENIAC en de ENIAC-lidstaten en heeft als doel de complete functionaliteit van LED-verlichting te exploiteren middels baanbrekende innovaties op het gebied van geïntegreerde verlichting. Door het opbouwen van Europees leiderschap in de halfgeleider- en lichttechniek zal ENLIGHT bepalend zijn voor de ontwikkelingen in de toekomstige verlichtingsmarkt.

De aanwezigheid van de organisaties en instellingen is evenwichtig. Naast kennisinstellingen, fabrikanten van halfgeleiders, een nutsbedrijf en innovatieve middelgrote en kleine ondernemingen, maken ook de twee grootste spelers in de verlichtingsindustrie Philips en Osram, deel uit van het ENLIGHT-project.

Een van de doelstellingen van het ENLIGHT-project is het ontwikkelen van compacte en efficiënte elektronica, drivers en controles die samen zullen leiden tot geoptimaliseerde LED-modules. Hierdoor zal het effect van LED gemaximaliseerd worden en kunnen de kosten laag blijven. Daarnaast zullen de intelligente verlichtingssystemen zorgen voor nieuwe oplossingen en mogelijkheden in de markt die met de conventionele verlichtingstechnologie niet haalbaar zijn. Uiteindelijk zullen deze intelligente verlichtingssystemen het energieverbruik met 20% moeten verlagen. ENLIGHT zal dus de basis zijn voor ‘Het licht van de toekomst’.

Plugwise zal in diverse werkgroepen medebepalend zijn, waaronder ‘system architecture’, ‘intelligent lighting systems’ en ‘validation and demonstration’. Plugwise zorgt met de huidige hard- en software voor de expertise op het gebied van communicatie en data-analyse. Daarnaast zal Plugwise uiteindelijk onderdeel kunnen zijn van de nieuwe standaard in de verlichtingsoplossingen- en producten.
